Since coming to Beijing, we have visited the forbidden city and Tiananmen square. Despite it being the middle of the week in the northern part of the country, it has been consistently about 95 degrees here and super crowded. As a historian, it was amazing for me to see such culturally significant symbols of China. Because I read no Chinese, I was thankful that a lot of the English writing in these areas was relatively good. We had Peking duck to fill us up after a long day of walking.
